Celebrating Our Summer Interns: A Farewell to Future Leaders

As we say "SEE YA LATER" to our 2024 Summer Interns we asked them a few questions before their farewell.

Claudia Celio

What did you enjoy most about your internship at Compadre?

I loved every bit, but it's the people at Compadre that made this internship really special. Everyone was so welcoming and getting to know the team was an incredible experience. There is just such a wealth of talented and kind people at Compadre who made every second of my internship unforgettable. Truly a dream team!

What was your favorite project, and how did you contribute?

My favorite project to work on was a campaign for my all time favorite franchises and it felt surreal. I also had a blast getting to participate in and observe the whole process all the way from concepting to final design. Having the concept I pitched get picked by the client and then working closely with the design team to push it to new heights, bring in new ideas, and refine everything to polish made this project really special.

What was the most important or helpful thing you learned during your internship?

The area I learned the most in was the pitching and concepting phase. I went from having never made a real mood board or a pitch deck at the start of my internship to now being very comfortable putting one together. But aside from the formatting, my greatest takeaways were learning the purpose of taking these steps. It is crucial to know how to effectively pitch your ideas to the client and to make sure everything you put out is reflective of the final product.

What one piece of advice would you give to future interns?

Time flies when you're working hard! During this internship the days just fly by, so make sure to value every minute. Think about what you could do to make this a fulfilling experience, don't hesitate to put yourself out there, and don't waste time getting nervous! This internship is really what you make of it.

What did you enjoy most about your internship at Compadre?

I really enjoy how we split our time between client work and internal projects. I got involved in the real world project, seeing how each team member collaborates and contributes with their unique skill set. In our downtime, we could also switch gears and jam to the internal project that’s leaning more toward our personal style. I'm immensely grateful that Compadre gave us amazing mentors like Felipe and Young, who have really helped us grow over the past few months with their generous advice and knowledge. I've gained a lot from their guidance.

What was your favorite project, and how did you contribute?

My favorite project was a marketing campaign for a game! It’s the project that l got to work the longest and the most rewarding project. My task was to participate in designing the visual identity of a murder mystery gameplay. I did some of the style frames for the talent title frames and talent ID cards for social media. The design went through different phases and after the client’s consolidated feedback, we were able to lock in with the grunge polaroid direction and kept fine-tuning the visual language for the campaign. It’s amazing to see everyone in the team come up with each unique aesthetic, but also work perfectly together to create something coherent and unified.

What was the most important or helpful thing you learned during your internship?

I think the most important thing I’ve learnt during this internship is that as a motion designer, the majority of the time, my task is not animating but rather than designing. One thing that stuck with me was when art director Young told us that design is doing 80% of the work, the rest is fairly easy. You can’t make a good animation without a solid still design. As a motion designer, I've been focusing on my animation skills but after this internship, I’d like to carry on this piece of advice and start to hone in my design skills as well.

What one piece of advice would you give to future interns?

Don’t hesitate to ask any questions when you’re not clear with the assignments, always ask the question, everyone at Compadre is super awesome and they’re more than happy to help you out!
