ESPN – Women’s Volleyball Visual Identity & Branding Playbook
BUMP, SET, SPIKE!
ESPN reached out to us to define Women’s Volleyball Branding on the ESPN network. Our task was to build a graphics toolkit and introduce a branding playbook for their internal team to expand upon as more leagues make their home on ESPN.
SILHOUETTE BUTTON
We propose a single branded platform mark to create consistency across all offerings. This button, placed after the endpage, highlights the unique ESPN experience. Color variations emphasize specific league branding, while the hero ESPN version is used universally across networks.

CAPTURING THE PERFECT SPIKE
To make this an ownable image for ESPN, we brought in an ex-volleyball player to use as our silhouette model. We captured her spike action with a high speed shutter frame approach so that we could maintain sharp edges throughout the entire movement giving us an optimal pixel perfect outcome.
A COHESIVE SYSTEM
This project involved developing the look and feel for Women’s Volleyball across all ESPN platforms, using minimal elements from NCAA guidelines to create cohesive visuals, animations, and templates.
CHRISTINE WILLIAMSON
Christine Williamson, an ESPN analyst and former University of Miami Volleyball player, was chosen to be the face of Women’s Volleyball on ESPN. We featured her throughout our spots to provide a familiar, expert voice that connects with viewers.
VOLUMETRIC STAGE AT STUDIO C
We used a volumetric stage to shoot some of our scenes, leveraging cutting-edge screen and camera technology. This innovative approach allowed us to create a fresh, dynamic feel for the brand, pushing the boundaries of traditional production to deliver a unique, immersive experience.
LEAGUE ONE VOLLEYBALL
We applied our brand toolkit to League One Volleyball, showcasing the flexibility of our system across multiple leagues for ESPN. This adaptation highlighted how the toolkit could seamlessly support different leagues while maintaining a consistent and dynamic brand presence.
